What I Do
I teach piano, keyboard and music theory for both students wishing to take exams, and those who want to learn just for fun. I believe that playing an instrument should be an enjoyable experience for students, and aim to make the lesson fun and varied, tailored to the students goals and interests. I teach children as young as four years old up to any age.

I have a passion for both music and teaching. I completed a degree in music at Keele University before going on to study a Postgraduate Certificate in Education at Staffordshire University and I am now a qualified primary school teacher. I have worked as a music teacher in both primary and secondary school settings, delivering curriculum music lessons along with individual and small group instrumental lessons. I am familiar with the syllabus of all major exam boards including ABRSM, LCM, Rockschool and Trinity.

I have a flexible approach to teaching, using a variety of methods to suit each student. I can prepare students for both practical exams and theory exams, or music of the student's own choice. I introduce my students to a variety of genres such as classical or pop music, and teach the history and context of new pieces to help to develop a passion for the instrument and a stylistic performance of the music. My aim is not only to teach the student to play the instrument but to help them to become a skilled musician in general by helping them to develop their musical knowledge and other skills such as sight reading and improvising.

I teach from home in a relaxed but professional environment. The first 30 minute lesson is free so you are welcome to come for a trial lesson to meet me and find out more about learning piano.
